In 1903, the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists moved its headquarters from Battle Creek, Michigan, to Takoma Park, in the District of Columbia. This was a change of horizons, mentally as well as geographically; it was appropriate for a church that now looked outwards, across the oceans, instead of internally, within the United States.
