MelVee Sabbath School - Lesson 9 (Trials, Tribulations, and Lists) Memory Text: Nehemiah 10:29 God knows the number of sand on the seashore, every drop of water that falls into the ocean, even “the very hairs of your head are all numbered”. Nothing escapes Him, even the finest of details (Luke 12:6, 7). How God lists genealogies in the Bible is an assurance for us that God knows us, and all about our families. Thus, we can fully rely on God. Also, the infinite eye watches our every step. There’s nothing under the sun that is beyond the control of God. He’s able to transform even the bad to fulfill His divine purpose. The 70 years of captivity were to be crowned with redemption for Israel (Ezra 1:9-11; Dan. 1:1, 2, read PK, p. 536). God is a God of history. At the right time, He stirred up Cyrus to conquer Babylon in October 539 B.C. Belshazzar ignored Daniel in his reign & met his death (Dan. 5). Ezra 2 & Nehemiah 7 both give us the lists of returnees from exile with Zerubbabel & Joshua. It shows “God cares about details we might not care about”. Both books shows how God’s plan to bring these captives to finish His work was fulfilled. The worked began with Ezra’s generation & was finished by Nehemiah’s (Neh. 7:73). After living in exile for almost a century of years, most Jews were unwilling to return even after the king’s decree that they could go back. Some had acquired houses & lands, and so were not ready to sacrifice them to return. It was no surprise that Ezra could not find any priest to minister in the temple of God (Ezra 8:1-15). Rich Jews lived in Mesopotamia in the time of Artaxerxes 1 (3BC, p. 376). Blessings & curses were set before Israel even in the ancient times by God. In an event of a curse, they only had to repent and God would fetch them out no matter where they were. Israel was faced with trials & tribulations along the way. But when they fasted & humbled themselves before God, He was there to rescue them (Deut. 30:1-6, Ezra 8:16-23). Ezra chose to ask God for help (vss. 22, 31). Most of the returnees chose to live in the countryside (Neh. 11:1, 2) where they could own their own lands or inherit from their ancestors. Hence, lots were cast to chose men to occupy Jerusalem, where most of the rebuilding occurred. Similarly, it’s a huge task for some of us to leave our comfort zone to places to witness Christ. He wants us to go where He sends us to go (7T, p. 40, Neh. 12:27-47). No one is without a flaw. There’s none who takes a leap to Christ. We all take “steps to Christ”. Do you feel a sense of guilt or despair? Do you feel unfit for God’s work? Do not draw back. Do not be discouraged. “God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” The enemy may overcome us for a while, but not forever. God never forsakes or rejects. “He desires to restore you to Himself...” This video was recorded and published by: MelVee Video Productions, "A Divine Voice Out of Africa."
