Together, we trace this interpretation through Scripture and history, drawing clear connections between the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation. Drawing from historical source material (including canon law, church councils, and papal statements, some sourced directly from the Vatican and spanning from the Reformation-era to the modern day) we examine claims of authority that historic Protestants argued belong to Christ alone. We also explore the origins of the 666 title, who it actually refers to, and why designations such as “Vicarius Filii Dei” have been denied or dismissed despite existing manuscript evidence. We then turn to the prophetic issue of worship and authority: the blasphemous change to Sunday worship, the warning of Revelation 14, and the biblical contrast between the seal that saves (Ezekiel 9; Exodus 31; Ezekiel 20) and the mark of the beast (Revelation 13). Scripture ties the Sabbath to a central question: Who sanctifies you? Christ, or man? Finally, we consider parallels between historical Sabbath enforcement (including buying and selling restrictions) and modern calls for civilly enforced Sunday laws, revealing why history may be repeating itself.
