Leaders were appointed to governor Israel and priests led the spiritual services. After the wall was fully built, the Law of God was read to the nation. Israel was united after they finished the work (Neh. 8:1-2). In the 7th month in an open square, they met together to worship God. The people craved to hear God’s Law (the 5 books of Moses) and requested Ezra and 13 men to teach, read and interpret to their hearing. The reading revealed God’s holiness and their sinfulness. Seeing the enormity of their sins they could not hold back their tears (Neh 8:10). This holy day became a day of repentance.
